Founded in 1772, the town is the county seat of Howard County and is considered the largest unincorporated county seat in the nation. Ellicott City is among the most affluent communities in the country and is listed by Money magazine as one of the 20 Best Places to Live in the United States. Our new homes in Ellicott City are near the historic downtown area, which has the atmosphere of an old Colonial town with boutiques, historic sites, cafes, restaurants and antique shops.
Much of Ellicott City is lined with gorgeous, historically preserved architecture. The town is also said to have several sites with a reputation for paranormal activity, and both residents and visitors can take the "Haunted Ellicott City" tour of sites including Liburn and the Heart Beat Bridge. A theme park, the Enchanted Forest, once stood on the Baltimore National Pike near Bethany Lane, and at the height of its popularity, over 300,000 children visited every summer.
